Subject: My Chair.....
In reply to: Nancy 's message, "Thomas Jefferson" on 07:35:12 03/20/01 Tue

I was driving up 61 from Hastings with my girls when I spotted what looked like the legs of an antique chair jutting out of the snow about thirty feet off the road.

I slammed on my breaks and backed up about 300 yards to where I had seen the chair legs. I said to the girls, "Do you see those old chair legs?" They were as excited as me, I think.

I walked over to the chair and kicked it free of the snow. It had to have been there at least a month. Sure enough, it was an old chair. And not just an old chair, it was an antique chair that had been fully refinished. The back is about as high as my head when I sit in it. The lathing is ornate, as well as the scrollwork carved into the wooden head across the top. It has huge wooden arms that curve out and curl at the ends. And the upholstery is forest green and brand spankin' new. All in all, it was probably (is probably) around a $400-$500 chair in an antique shop.

My girls chirped, "If it's free it's for me!" I asked them where they learned such repartee... they only rolled their eyes.

It now resides in my parlour.
