Joel, my friend.

Good luck tonight when you meet with Kyle's dad. I think you will be OK. The number one thing you need to remember above all else is that you really need to KEEP YOUR COOL no matter what happens or no matter what Kyle's dad says. From what you told me about him, it sounds like he might try to push your buttons to try to upset you. If that happens, he could then claim that he whupped you because you were being disrespectful to him and he is not going to "tolerate that kind of behavior in his house from anyone." I want you to be prepared for that.

Regarding the incident at the golf course, I read about that in the archives and your post today. Kudos to all you guys for doing your duty. I also want to point out that this is a perfect example of why it would have been wrong for Kyle's dad to spank you for that broken window unless he had permission from your parents to do so. Kyle's dad could have very easily found himself in similar trouble if he had.

Regarding Luke. I totally understand his reaction and I am not angry with him. I am just frustrated that I haven't been able to find the right words to explain to him and make him understand why you need to do this.

Regarding the underage drinker at the Phillies game you read about. I suspect he probably had a fake ID. A lot of kids do that to buy liquor.

Also a note about the ump who made the bad call in Game 6 of the 1985 World Series between the Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals. It was a different umpire who made the bad call in Detroit last week but the two calls were very similar. I remember the '85 call well. The Cards had a 3-2 advantage going into game 6 and the lead when umpire Don Denkinger made that infamous call at first base. I firmly believe that, had that call been made correctly, that the Cardinals would have won game 6 and the WS title. When that call was made however, then-Cardinals manager Whitey Herzog blew a gasket and the Cardinals became unglued and proceeded to self-destruct and lost game 6. The controversy spilled over into game 7 and the Cardinals got spanked big time and lost the series. (This is an issue that you might want to ask your coach about. I'm sure he remembers that call from the 1985 World Series and there are important lessons you could learn from that fiasco.)

Anyway, good luck tonight and let us know what happens.
