Author: Rick to little bros
Subject: A Big Brother Message

I want to respect Steve's wishes & keep this short. Joel, the ass chewing is fine if you really think I'm wrong & deserve one. I pack a size 38 in my drawers so there is plenty to chew out & believe me little brother, you're not the first & probably not the last to chew my ass.

The apology was not because I think I was wrong in my advice to talk to your dad (cause I still think that was right) but because it worked out so wrong for you & caused that temporary split with Luke.

Luke really kicked my gut when I reached out to him as a big brother & that really ticked me off. Then there was this irresponsible nonsense about 17/18 y/o guys being too old to talk to their dads & having to prove their manhood by moving on & making own decisions. Maybe daily trival matters that makes some sense but my advice was directed toward potentially harmful challenges you faced Joel. To say you, Kyle, Luke, Sean & others are too old to talk over with dad 'big' problem situations is crap. If you had an indifferent, absent or abusive dad that would be one thing but you guys have said your dads are top rate. You should feel damn lucky dudes to have a dad who loves, cares & talks with you. I know I was & still am.

I'll cut this short by just saying, I'm still proud to be, if you want me, as a 'big brother' but if you're buying into this notion that at 18 you got all the answers & it somehow compromises your manhood to talk 'serious' matters over with your dad or accept that nonsense that it's a valid option to consider dad's advice obsolete, then there is no reason to seek or get my advice. Your dads should be #1 Joel, Kyle, & all little bros, & if you resort to names like snitch, wimp, wuss etc cause a guy wants to talk things over with dad, then you don't need, want or deserve my advice either.

Agree, none of us are perfect but I'm willing to accept your imperfections if you accept mine & we can move forward as 'brothers'. Joel, I was not depressed nor am I now but if you want to see something depressed, any of you dudes kick my gut like Luke did with his words when I went in good faith as a brother to him & I'll verbally DEPRESS your little jock ass up to your shoulder blades.

Lets hang tight bros & fill me in after this b-day weekend on how Joel survived.
