Joel, right now probably the last thing you need is any further advice from Rick or I. You're a smart & athletic inclined young man of 18 & as Steve suggested, be that young man you are & relie on yourself and close buddies.

I don't understand either Joel, but hope it all works out ok. Guess I got hungup on this little brother stuff too & it felt good dude but Rick & I made some mistakes & realize it now.

Joel, I was never bucking to get your old man to paddle whip your ass nor Luke's. I can't say that maybe in some ways you both had it coming for thinks over past 2 months but that's history & best left alone. As Rick said, our interference has caused enough pain that was never intended & in ways beyond your ass cheeks.

I guess I was shocked too when you & Luke told what happened. Did not think it would come to that. I can never recall our dad putting us in such a position. My opinion again, probably not now worth much, is both dads really handled this poorly.

Your dad obviously meant business & though the first time in December was real too, this time it was his love & care initiating rather than you Joel. Those holes do bite I recall even the times I had on Levis or briefs. Being bare, you for sure had 'red cherries' to wear that night.

Joel, never think that Rick or I didn't bawl several times when dad blistered our little asses at home. I told myself, as you apparently told yourself, not to cry in front of buddies. Think if Luke & his dad were not there, your dad could've brought you to tears?

You're right probably with regards to a second paddling from your dads. One thing our dad wouldn't tolerate was deliberate disobedience or being defiant & only you can answer whether it would've been better to take another from dad or agree to take one from Luke.

Rick & I as you know did the trading swat games & dad never ask either of us to punish for real the other. If my dad thought my little ass deserved a whipping, I got it from him & if I needed a second one, he was more than capable & there was enough leather in his belt to whip tan my hide until the message damn clear. I still irony in the fact he paddled you for paddling Luke & then insisted you give Luke a paddling. How do you think you would've reacted if your dad had ask Luke's dad to paddle your ass for having paddled his boy?

Again, for what it's worth, I think talking to your dad was right. The paddling you ended up with is in question & the rift with Luke really sad. In a way Joel, the paddling just accounted for one or more you earned growing up...right?

They got away this morning & meeting up with mom's folks who are cruising with them. The six of us had a bon voyage dinner at a restaurant last night--call it Valentine's dinner early for our folks. Tonight its the fundraiser Valentine dinner/dance to help our seminarians studying for the priesthood & Mollie & I will join Rick & Jeanne & other friends. Mollie & I have private plans for Sunday. We'll stay busy no doubt next few weeks at office but I'll be damn if we'll let mom & dad down since they've never let us down.

That's my Joel that I've come to know. See why now I chewed your ass some in the past? You are more capable & mature than some of those past stunts & pranks & even 10 year old boys look up to you. If the hospital stay was a surprise to him, he'd been dumb founded if he'd known the basketball shorts covered a recently paddled jock ass!! Ha Ha dude!!

Just act cool dude. It would be most unfair if Kyle or any of the guys brought Holly or any of their gf's to the party paddle line. Any guy that would do that to you would deserve a punch to knock out his lights or stripped butt naked as you & Luke were had the dorm as payback. No need to give big details as you would among guys but if she finds out just tell her your little butt needs some TLC & see if she wants to pat or put her hand in the back pocket of your levis to make it all better.

Joel, its not anything you or the other dudes did but Rick I know got burned in the Luke ordeal & feels bad. Maybe now is a time for us to back off awhile & leave you to work things out with buddies you hang with on team & at school. As Rick said in his message, maybe we took the big brother sentiment too far & needs reassessment after the hurt our advice has caused. If I don't get back before your birthday next Friday, do have a Happy Birthday Joel.
