Subject: There are more coaches wanting this in discussions I have had
In reply to: Slade 's message, "Case by Case" on 29/05/21 2:34pm

We need to value each and every coach, and the opinions they all have. Common Sense is often what everyone wants.

There is a confusion at the moment that borders on set and forget, and case by case.

We would love to set and forget, because less decisions need to be made, and less disagreements could be had. Imagine if the AFL started telling AFL coaches that they couldn't play someone that hadn't played Ruck in the Ruck position. It is Ludacris.

Because we are only after points, it is hard to police what is actual reality. Imagine for a second that along with our points, we also needed to add up the goals in which our players kicked, how many goals in which our direct opponent kicked, or how many spoils and rebound fifty's our defenders did, and how many Ruck contests our rucks won. Adding all to a overall score to win or lose.

This week, my forward six might kick a goal between them, and in AFL terms that means a loss, but because we are collect points only, I am still a chance to win. This is why this hardness toward the balance is fruitless in a way.

HOWEVER, I see value in it, as I have from the start. As you say Slade, just common sense. A midfielder CAN and often does play Half Back Flank, or Half Forward Flank. I believe Mitch Robinson is a better Half Back Flank than a midfielder. He is tough and unrelenting. Either that or a tagger. Not the way he is used in the AFL. This league has allowed that positioning, and I have no idea how AFL Realistic that is, because everytime I check he is lined up Midfield only. But he is capable of where I wish to play him. Is that realistic in my Virtual Superleague World. I think so. Given his attributes he brings to the game, just by watching the bloke. Common Sense.

Could Balta play Ruck, of course he could. If he was in a side that wanted to make him a permanent Ruck, he would probably make a great one. 200cm, leaps well, runs well, not hard to imagine in a virtual world. MANY MANY other examples. We just need to imagine that it is plausable, and play on is the call.

And this is not for permanent arrangements. Balance is great for showing intent to have a balanced side. When things pop up, like a Witts ACL, or for Robinson on a half back flank, a long term injury to Will Day or Jeremy Howe to decimate my defensive stocks, Robinson has been a life saver to be able to swing back there, even though it isn't happening too often for Brisbane.
