Subject: Bullied into paying $25 for popiah

A Singaporean tourist claimed to have been bullied into paying $25 for popiah at a store in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Writing to the citizen journalism website STOMP, the Netizen who wanted to be known only as 'Koh', said that the store is located in Hanoi, opposite the waster puppet performance theatre.

'Koh' had patronized the store with a group of friends, and they bought five spring rolls (popiah) and some local salad from the female shop owner and her 10-year-old girl.

Although locals had told them the spring rolls costs only $0.30 each, the girl wanted them to pay $5 per popiah.

According to 'Koh', the spring rolls contained only vegetables.

When the group refused to pay, two men came forward and tried to threaten the tourist group. While 'Koh' noticed policemen patrolling the street, no one came forward to help them and ignored the dispute.

Later, the group got to know from residents and their tour guide that they can expect no help from the police as store owners have paid them off with 'hongbao' or red packets stuffed with money, in order to bribe them.

In the post, 'Koh' wanted to give all potential travellers to Hanoi a heads up about the store, and said of the policemen's lack of action, "That is absurd!"

Relax - Bullied into paying $25 for popiah

Comment: Tried once before the popiah really taste like .. grass.
