Mystery of the 20 missing brides
2010-5-10
THE mystery of 20 disappearing brides from Vietnam is under investigation by police in central China's Jiangxi Province as they vanished a month after they married villagers in Lichuan County.

They disappeared one day in late April after villagers spent thousands of yuan to win their hearts, Xinhua news agency reported today.

The first villager to marry, surnamed Wang, said he was introduced to a Vietnamese woman Ruan Xiaofang on March 4. They got married soon after Wang agreed to give her family 33,000 yuan (US$4,834) in betrothal gifts.

After a simple ceremony, the couple started their everyday life, but Wang found that his new bride was an enthusiastic matchmaker, the report said.

She introduced about 20 Vietnamese women to Wang's bachelor friends and Wang said he trusted her after watching her for a month.

But on a matchmaking trip in April, Ruan left dinner early to buy something and was never seen again.

After returning home depressed, Wang discovered that every other villager who had married Vietnamese brides called to ask him their whereabouts.

Jiangxi police said the women were illegal immigrants who married farmers in China's mountainous areas to cheat them out of betrothal gifts.

TKG note:- vietnam bride is better be avoided.
