This is the message currently on the home page of Boerboel.co.za

Website down.

It is with great sadness that boerboel.co.za has gone belly-up. The hosting company, Bluehost, has given notification that there were too many files on my account and that I had to reduce the amount of files before August the 11th, 2009 or have this account terminated. The boerboel website has 9200 user contributed images plus a further 2000 or so images and code files. For every photo 4 separate files exist - a thumbnail file, the original image, a large version and a smaller image. Then there are a large number of temporary files as well, which could easily amount to a further 2000 files. Add to that another 1000 or so files associated with the newsletter system. Then add another 1000 to 2000 email files and at least a 1000 emails marked as spam daily. All this puts boerboel.co.za well over the 50,000 file limit imposed by Bluehost. This is a limit that did not exist when I paid two years in advance to host boerboel.co.za, but that is how it goes - you are promised unlimited bandwidth, storage and unlimited everything else, but as soon as you actually start using those services you find constraints placed upon you according to a so-called Terms Of Service agreement.

Well, as far as boerboel is concerned, bluehost is a company to be avoided in future!

This leaves the only option to move boerboel.co.za to a dedicated hosting service such as http://rackspace.com though the cost will be substantial. Reducing or deleting the images is not an option - the 9200 photos of boerboels on this site is a precious resource for the boerboel.

It is tragic to take a site offline that is currently occupying the #1 spot on Google, but I have no other option.

Let's hope it is sorted out soon!

Casper
