I am not calling a nonbeliever bitter simply because he argues against my “cherished beliefs.” Ben, Siddah, and the like have argued against my beliefs on many occasions but I do not consider their tones bitter. I considered Don’s remarks bitter because of the way he brought across his points, not because of the mere disagreements he has. Assuming such motives without reading the posts is not advisable. Nonetheless, I accept your apology.

What do I mean by bitter? Consider these remarks:

You make a pitiful statement of mythology of some god story
and then try to show it is real.

Come on Wade where is your open mind.

(In response to my offering an example of the explanatory power of theism)

Interesting thoughts or should I say thought Wade. As if a warning needs to issued like some ones life is in danger for thinking thoughts and exploring ideas.

But who cares about facts any way when god did it. I think you should do this on your next test at school for every question you are asked just say “god did it his way”--OK, I wonder how long you will last in school maybe a semester if you are lucky.

And look what kind of evidence the ---god did it--- brings to the table of understanding. It enlightens every one. Have you ever seen such good evidence in all your life NO WAY. god did it, god did it, god did it, god did it, god did it, god did it, god did it, god did it---No I’m not being mean just getting used to the idea. Any judge that convicts any man for a crime after the man says --god did it-- is an atheist for this is the best possible answer and it fits all situations for all times. 3 LITTLE WORDS AND YOU ARE NOW THE SMARTEST MAN IN THE WORLD--- I should have known.

Just think of the ensuing battles and blood shed spread all over the cosmos with little man caught in the middle....LOL.

come on Wade you are stuck in mythology and too proud to admit it.

I’m not saying it’s morally wrong to disagree with me, but being sarcastic and bitter about it is far less satisfactory and far less constructive than rational arguments. I would rightfully be considered as having a poor attitude if I said such things like, “Come on atheist, you are stuck in mythology and are too proud to admit it.” Such statements are just not very constructive or very useful.

A.k.a. Yahweh. Calling this God a “monster” certainly requires some justification, particularly in light of commandments like, “love your enemies” and such.

What is such justification? Some note that if God really destroyed the cities mentioned in the OT (whether through the Hebrews or direct supernatural intervention) he must be malicious. But those cities were so filled with evil (according to the Old Testament) that they must be destroyed. So if the cities were really so evil, then a just God might be justified in destroying them.

Yahweh might not exist, but if the Biblical God exists I doubt he is that malicious when one takes into account all the Biblical data and assume that it is correct (that God really did destroy cities, give commandments of not stealing, loving one another, etc.), often because the Bible offers reasons for God’s otherwise dubious actions (e.g. destroying a city because it is filled with evil) and the Bible states explicitly that he is not sadistic and does not take pleasure in punishing sinners (he would much rather have them turn from their ways and live, see Ezekiel).
