Personally, the thing I worry about the most is how much government is going to be impinging upon my personal life. I think government should be as small as possible while still allowing freedom. (whatever that is)

I generally find that the Democratic side typically wants more government that borders on socialism as Duane has alluded to.

Republicans are typically for smaller government, but then they make the mistake of trying to dictate how people should act based on religious principles. (legislating morality if you will)

However, I find this criteria to fail as far as being decisive, because we know the only constant in politics is lying. What a base my vote on may very well be a complete falsehood uttered to garner votes.

If you add to that the complications of an electoral college, then you find yourself in an entirely helpless situation. You simply end up voting with your gut, for an election where your vote probably won't matter.

I resolved after last election to never ever vote again for all kinds of reasons, chief among them being unfullfilled promises from either side.

Some people say that philosophy doesn't allow you to vote for change, but to that I respond that sure, you MAY be playing a part in change, but you have no idea of what kind of change you play a part in engendering.

I suppose I could just as well affect change by shooting a random group of people. In essence, voting is no different in the sense that the outcome of such an action on a per person killed basis is unknown.
