Not being exposed to American media to the degree that most of you are, I don't think I have enough information to have an opinion on Kerry vs. Bush. If I had to make a guess, I think I'd take Bush. I do, however, believe you have taken the proper approach here, Ben.

Many (if not most) people base their election decisions on a particular candidate's stance on current issues. I believe this is a huge mistake. The issues that are current today will disappear tomorrow, when the leadership is in the middle of their term. This leaves them to govern without a direct mandate from the electorate. We need to know that when that day comes the government will make decisions that we will still agree with, at least generally. Thus, my biggest criteria when casting a vote is: which candidate's values closely reflect my own?
