There are many ways in which George Bush's administration has been ironic, but I think the most egregious example is when he proposes an amendment to ban gay marriage...

The reason I find this so ironic is that when a person proposes an amendment to a Constitution, it would seem safe to assume that the person in question attributes some value to that document. However, Bush has proven over and over that he will disregard it any time he likes (a fine example is all the people who are still in Guantanamo Bay without any hope of due process). So if he is free to disregard it, then the gay community should follow by example and go on getting married, whether an amendment exists or not.

It's sad to me how so many fundamentalists think they can legislate morality. And it's also sad to me that although we live in a country which is advanced in many ways, our view of homosexuality and various other issues is still rooted in the superstitions and prejudices of the past.
