Title: history question

In the collapse of the Weimar republic, and any other country that may have fallen due to hyperinflation, what happened to the assets owned by individuals? Were companies bankrupted and stocks deemed worthless, and real estate defaults resulting in foreclosures? The question seems pertinent due to the possible severe inflation as a result of US fiscal problems and unpayable debt. I am ignorant of this portion of history and if anyone can give a quick synopsis it would be appreciated.
