Subject: While I get what you're saying, sometimes it's an advantage to compete in many locals throughout the season. I remember Melanie Truett in 2003 had been 1st runner up to almost every local titleholder that year. She eventually won a local towards the end. She did a great job at states, cracked the top ten and performed a song that I believe should have sealed her a prelim talent award. Quality v quantity can't really apply when local judges can often go WAY off the mark with their chosen girl.

In reply to: Just my opinion 's message, "I feel the state should go to open auditions or limit the locals to 12. I feel quality is better than quantity, but realize Dover DOwns expects 2 nights of prelims so the board really has to stretch to get at least 15 or more contestants. Some of the last winners have competed in every prelim. It just seems silly." on 09:12:47 03/15/11 Tue

I just think being in a small state the recycling of judges and contestants gets old, causes a conflict of interest (local judges) and is predictable every year until someone ages out or quits competing. I understand to newbies FINALLY winning a prelim after 10 times is a thrill but where's the glory of going to states and re-competing against all of the girls that newbie lost to in the previous prelims? .CLICK IN09:50:46 03/19/11 Sat
