Subject: My Thief II review

Well, it's here! I've only played the first 5 missions (on normal at that), and I have to say- LGS really outdid themselves. If you liked Song of the Caverns from TGold, you're really gonna love T2. First let me list the improvements from the original:

1)Smarter AI
2)Better voice acting/conversations
3)Richer textures, including weather effects
4)Complete non-linear play. You could play each mission 10 times and not do it the same way twice.
5)Better maps- you can also 'write' on them.
6)Much larger and more interactive missions.
7)New cool tools and weapons, zoom effect, and a throwable remote camera- very fun and slick.
8)More control options: Auto equip toggle, auto ladder grab toggle, weather and fog control, etc.

Although there are elements of the undead popping up here and there, these missions, and the storyline are unquestionably centered around very human and politically involved characters. Several subplots are already developing by mission 3. Writing walkthroughs for this game will be a daunting task, due to the gazillion options, and size of the maps.

The main thing I've noticed is a real maturing of the whole atmosphere. LGS has taken the best of the originals, modernized it a little, darkened it up, and added tons of goth to it. Every mission so far is based on sneaking- some missions won't allow kills even on the normal setting, or only 2 at most. Mission 3 had so many secret passages I couldn't keep up with them. There are also a set number of 'secrets' per mission, and you can see how many you found by checking your stats at the end. The new machines are also guaranteed to scare you silly. Very creepy.

All in all, I'm enjoying it immensly so far, but I would strongly recommend newbie's to play it on normal the first time through, as it seems even veteran Thiefs are struggling with some of the missions. Although patience is a Theif's best tool, anticipation for what's around the next corner has me wearing out my quickload key.

Now go rob someone, you taffers!!
