I have 3 boys ages 13 (soon to be 14) and twin 9 year old. I have just started using spankings as punishment with all three boys. It seems that taking away possessions and/or grounding them really doesn't have an effect on them. You tell them that they will no longer be able to play Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 or have internet access, and all they do is shrug their shoulders and say, "Oh well". So when I got that reaction, I informed them that I will start handing out spankings. This scared them straight for a few months, but then my teenager decided to test the limits. He found out that dad means what he says and that I'm not a push over like his mom. Well to make a long story short, the twins have tested me twice and I have stuck to my guns about spanking. They know that I'm serious and their behavior and attitudes have changed for the better. My teenager has too, but still finds himself getting into trouble. I started off by using just my hand on bare bottoms and bending them over either my knee or their bed. But recently I have been thinking about switching to either a belt or a paddle. When I spank with my hand, I usually go until their bottoms are red. So I guess my questions are, What is better Hand, Belt, or paddle? What do most others use and how effective is it? and Where would be the best place to get a paddle? And of course I'm open to any advice that you can give me. Large enough to look scary, but in reality not to painful. They do make a smack though. Often antique stores will have items that can be used. I have an old sorority paddle that is shaped like a key. The rounded end is about 6 inches across and makes for a nice paddle with the key end making a nice handle. When applied to the bare bottom, 6 on each cheek, notice is taken. As for belts and strop. My dad had grandpa's razor strop and my brother and I danced to it many times out in the garage with our jeans down. Keep up the good work. [ Post a Reply to This Message ]

Use both here to deal with misbehavior. However, for your twins I would say your hand should be sufficient to communicate parental disapproval at their age. [ Post a Reply to This Message ]

The latter might be better off with a longer spanking by hand. However, use a broad paddle or a leather soled shoe if firmer punishment is needed. For teens, a wide belt doubled up, might be a good implement otherwise as above a wide paddle with a bit more weight, but not enough to bruise, I do not agree with bruising.
