Hey Everyone,
My Big Brother/Best Bud Mark (the Athlete) has the flu and probably won't be playing tonight in our basketball game.
He thinks he's okay to be playing but, I think he's going to be told different later this morning that he's not!
I probably won't be playing either, as I have some flu symptons, but won't know until later this morning if I will be allowed to play or not after Mark and I see a doctor.
At stake is our basketball team retaining our undefeated season and not losing tonites game with Mark, our leading team scorer, not playing.
Here's what happened so far...
Mark seemed okay at school yesterday on Thursday. He acted like his usual self during the day in classes.
When we got to basketball practice he seemed okay at first. He did okay in practice, but at times looked sluggished to me. Coach didn't say anything to him, didn't notice he was I guess. After we showered and we dressed he commented that he was "cold". I asked him if was feeling okay and he shrugged and said, "yes."
I went home with Mark, we made pre-arrangements with our folks earlier, so that I could sleepover and study with Mark for a test we have today (Friday). We ate supper with Mark's folks and he ate okay. We even horse-around some before bedtime and Mark seemed to be himself.
It was early this morning that Mark woke me up off and on making trips to the bathroom, as I heard him being sick by either throwing up or having an upset stomach having to go to the bathroom. I asked him if he was okay, and he said he was fine.
I knew better and I finally said I was getting his dad. He begged me not to because he wanted to play basketball Friday
night and said his dad probably wouldn't let him.
Mark's dad took his tempature and saw Mark's running a slight fever. He told him he's probably got the flu! His dad asked me if I had any flu symptons, while taking my tempature and saw I was normal but, said I should be checked out with Mark having been exposed to his flu germs.
Mark was ordered to stay in bed, to keep warm, and so was I oordered to do the same, until later this morning when we're both going to be taken to the doctors for a check-up!
Mark protested to his dad that "we have our test in class to take and we have a basketball game to win tonight to keep our unbeaten record perfect!"
Mark's dad told Mark that he's got the flu and I might not have it worse as Mark does but, that I'm in the early flu stages and we both can forget about the school test and playing basketball tonight!
Boy, did that make Mark go ballistic!
I realize that if Mark doesn't play, being our leading game scorer for our team as he has all season long, that we could lose the game. As for me being third leading scorer on the team it might have some effect if I don't play and we lose.
Our team is in FIRST PLACE all alone, and the second place team behind us has two loses so far for the season, so if we lose tonight with Mark and I not playing our team could survive yet and still finish the regular season with two games left next week and still win FIRST PLACE!
So, Mark and I have been ordered to stay in bed, until we go see the doctor. Mark is not a Happy Camper and I'm not either! Mark thinks he's going to get the doctor to let him play, and me too, but Mark's dad says we won't be. We can't be spreading flu germs all over the game floor to both teams, and especially make our fellow team players exposed to the flu to get it.
Mark's been told by his dad that he might not feel good now, but he better follow orders or when he's better he might experience something to make him feel worse to wish he had followed order now!
I think I know what Mark's dad is talking about, and my dad won't hesitate to not give me the same if I don't follow orders, too!
So, I'll try to let everyone know what is going on, if Mark does have the flu, if I will get worse and if our basketball team can survice without us to win.
Hopefully we won't be stopped or discovered posting to the forum!
Mark has joked about the upcoming doctor's visit, that maybe we need a second doctor opinion who will allow us both to play basketball tonight!
Talk to you later,
Jake, one of the Hoopsters!
