Robert, you are older than me, thus your vivid memories of classmates in girdles and stockings. As I was in the 6th grade the mini skirt was still 'en vogue', but always accompanied by sheer pantyhose and a short pantiegirdle. Almost every girl wore a miniskirt with nude pantyhose. They seemed so proud of it that they finally were allowed to wear sheer pantyhose at the age of 12. Our high school had a very modern thing at that time, called 'language lab'. It consisted of perhaps 20 seperated little desks with headphones with microphones. Our (male) English teacher (English is not my mother's tongue) in front of us could watch all of the students and hear everyone seperately speaking English. And he could communicate with every student alone. Left in front of me sat a girl who often wore a miniskirt, nude sheer pantyhose and white laced boots up to the knee. Her name was Elke and I remember her so vividly as if it were yesterday. I was so distracted by her appearance that I could hardly concentrate on my tasks. Fortunately our teacher did not notice it.
