Thank you Kristin and Mary for your advice about the dress. Last Saturday was the Utica College Science Fair and through a truly fortuitous event the student next to my son did a project on getting stains out of fabric. Turns out Fels Naptha is better then Oxyclean and gentler on fabric. I talked to this boy endlessly then on Sunday morning Charlotte and I scrubbed my tub till it shined, filled it with cold water, and dipped the dress in. We opened up a bar of Fels Naptha, rubbed it on the stained parts of the dress, and let the whole thing soak for a few minutes. Then I used a gentle shower spray to rinse. I hung it on a drying rack, head my breath, and waited. I totally freaked out when what appeared to be rust stains started showing up some of the white parts of the embroidered appliqué, but thankfully Tide-to-Go was able to get rid of them! The dress looks beautiful. Thank you Mary especially, I know I wouldn't have thought to wash it in the tub, but it makes perfect sense.
