my doctor wants me to get 3 injections. she wants me to get a flu shot, pneumonia shot and a tentus shot as well, i been putting it off for a bit now. i think i been putting it off cause i am afraid that they will tell me to bend over and give me the shots in my butt. i never had a shot there and am scared that i will be made to get my shots in the butt. so will i have to get the shots in my butt and if so will it hurt. i am super nervous about it so any help would be work here.

would i be made to get the shots in my butt and if so how bad will it be? i am scared and idk what to do about it, i go to the doctors alone it really freaks me out if i do have to get them in the butt. like i said i never had an injection there before so how will it be done? what will the doctor/nurse do at injections time?

so to ramble but really scared that i will be made to get the shots in my butt

Shots in the butt usually don't hurt if they are given by someone competent and you don't tense your butt. If you do clench your butt or get a less experienced nurse, it will sting. The thing is that they sting more in your arm most of the time. Your butt has a lot more muscle to absorb the medicine, so it's usually less painful to get a shot in the butt.

When I was a child, I only had one shot in the arm and it stung so bad that I asked my mom to not let them give me shots in the arm any more. Back then I still tensed up for shots, and they were still better in the butt than the arm.

The tetanus booster especially hurts when given in the arm. I had one at 12 in the butt, and it didn't hurt at all. I had one as an adult in the arm and it hurt for 3 days. I had a job where I did heavy lifting over my head, and it hurt to move my arms like that.

What will happen usually is the nurse comes in, and will ask you to lower your pants (or lift your skirt) and lower your panties; you can usually lower them to just below your bottom. Then the nurse will have you stand and lean over the table, and usually ask you to take your weight off of one leg. She may ask you to lay on the table if there are multiple shots. She will then swab the site with alcohol, and give you the shot(s) in the upper part of your butt, almost in your hip, but not quite. You will feel a slight pinch, and if the nurse is good, that's all you will feel. Try to relax your bottom completely during the shot, if you tense it will sting. After the medicine is all in, she will put a bandage on, and may rub the site for a second to distribute the medicine out. Then you can get dressed and it's all over. You will probably end up liking it better than in the arm because it's less painful, and you are facing the other way so you don't actually see the needle.

Hope this helps.

Pretty hard to predict what a nurse will and will not do. I had the same nurse all the time growing up, and she was usually very nice but other times very matter of fact. They are people, just like any of us and have bad days and good days.

If you are that frightened, perhaps you should have a trusted relative or friend go with you. You can't really rely on a nurse for emotional support, they are just doing a job. One advantage, as I mentioned before, is that when getting a shot in the bottom you are facing the other direction and don't see the needle. You could probably just distract yourself with thinking of other things besides what is taking place, and it will be easier to take.

I got many shots in the bottom growing up, and although some did sting, they were not excruciating, and even the ones that left a little soreness were better than any of the shots I have received in the arm. Even the Hepatitis series I got in the arm left my arm slightly sore.

If you're getting three shots, it seems likely at least one will go in your butt. I agree with Brendon, but the tetanus shot is known to sting badly for some people. I was with a friend who got one in an ER, and he was cursing for 15 min afterward. Hope it goes well for you.
