I am a college senior and completing my last semester. While home for break, I went for my annual exam and felt the usual jitters that comes from such an experience. I no longer see a pediatrician but my mom's doctor, an older man, who had a nurse present while examining me. She required that I fully undress, something that I don't much like, and wear a paper gown. My mom came along but waited outside while I received a complete exam - heart, breast, internal and a rectal - and sadly updating of 2 shots. When I learned of that, I became emotional and asked if mom could be present. The doctor said that the nurse would take care of my shots and said it was fine if I wished to have my mom present. With that the nurse left to prepare my 2 injections and retrieve my mother who entered minutes later asking what was wrong. I told her I never liked having to get a shot let alone more than one. She smiled and said not to worry. I was fidgeting with the paper gown trying to cover better when the nurse came in and delivered the news, "These go in your bottom, so lay back and turn over." I felt my face flush and bottom clench as I prepared for the ordeal. Soon, the nurse found one spot and rubbed it with alcohol and jabbed me. I whimpered and clutched the table as the second was given causing me to tear up. When she finished, mom handed me some tissues and helped me up as I felt sore and embarrassed. She handed me my clothing and I asked her if she knew what I was to have done today, which was greeted by a nodd and smile, "Yes dear."
