Yes they can be given in the arm. If you are thin and petite to gluteal is less painful. More muscle to absorb the medication and plus you walk every where so you work it into the muscle faster. I have found females are more likely to bare their bottoms then men are. It could be the fact that they wear these bath suits now that expose most of their bottom so they are used to it being exposed. In my practice I always give them the choice and I would say 80-85% of men want it in their arm and the females between 18-45 opt for the butt.

A nurse once told me that she never asked patients where they want their shots because requiring them to make a decision can exacerbate their nervousness. Her only partial exception was asking which cheek if only giving one injection.
