I was given a few more injections today from two visiting nurses. Today's shots will stay with me at least in my memory for a while.
When they had me roll onto my stomach on my bed, they lifted up my robe and pulled my underpants down. The next thing that happened was getting my cheeks spread and being told I was getting my temperature taken. I had a IVAC rectal probe placed up my rectum. I've had rectal readings taken numerous times, so that I didn't mind.
As I laid there I got the first of four shots. The probe was still up my rectum, the unit between my legs.
The first shot was very painful. The second was even more so, as one went into my upper buttock, and the other in the lower portion.
I asked them if they could hold off before anymore shots were given, as they told me I'd be given four.
Finally the probe was removed and my temperature noted. One nurse asked me if I was ready for the next two. My left buttock was really hurting at that point, and I asked if I could get them anywhere else. the one giving the shots said I could and told me to roll onto my back. The nurse who'd taken my temperature now lifted up my T-shirt, and slightly lowered the front waistband of my briefs.
Then she coated a gauze with alcohol and vigorously rubbed my lower abdomen. As the other nurse approached holding the syringe, I saw the needle, and realized why my butt cheek was hurting so much. I'm not sure but this needle on the first syringe looked at least 2" long. It might have been a 1 1/2" but I'm not sure.
"This is going to really hurt" she said, holding the syringe up and slightly plunging the needle to evacuate some of the medication. "Ready?"
"No!, oh, no, I don't think I can take that in my stomach!"
"OK" she said, "then back on your stomach", and I reluctantly rolled over.
The third and fourth shots went in the opposite cheek and I almost let out a scream they hurt so much, but forced my face into the pillow. One of the nurses then applied warm moist towels to my cheeks which helped a little bit.
I'm just so glad albeit they were four painful injections in my buttocks (and I'm still sore!) I didn't go through getting the last two in my stomach.
