I was having severe back pain today and went to the Urgent Care. Doctor diagnosed it as a back sprain and said she could give me some shots to get the medication into my system quickly and then follow that up with prescriptions. She asked if that would be ok and I said "yes". Awhile later the nurse came in with 3 syringes. She explained they would all need to go in my butt and said she would give me 2 in one side and then the other 1 in my other side. She had me pull down my pants and lean over the exam table. She told me to put all my weight on my left side. She swabbed a spot in my right cheek and said this would be a steroid shot to bring down inflammation. She said "big stick" and then put the needle in. At first it didn't hurt but towards the end it started to sting. After that one, she moved right on to the next one. This time she swabbed a spot higher up, more in my hip, and told me this was a muscle relaxant. This time she said "another stick" and in went needle #2. This one didn't really hurt at all. Next she told me to switch my weight to my right side and she moved to my left butt cheek. She said this was pain medicine mixed with an anti-nauseant (because the back pain was making me nauseous) and she told me that this one might really sting. She swabbed the spot and then said "last one" and put the needle in. Immediately, it stung really bad and she injected it really slowly. When it was over she said "All done". She had to put 3 small round bandaids on each injection site because they all bled a little. She told me I may be sore for awhile (which I was!) and that the steroid shot might actually leave a dimple in my butt for awhile. This is the first time I've had multiple shots like this. Wasn't too bad and it did help my back pain almost immediately.
