Not saying butt shots are not given for flu injections, but on asking a nurse if they could be, I was told yes, they could, though usually are given in the arm; the reason being, some patients as a study revealed, had immediate effects where their buttocks muscle when injected caused them to fall or drop. Supposedly this is the reason they're not as common in the buttocks as the arms.
Though there is a forum for what I'm about top say, I'll say it here, RE: FLU Season. The shots wherever given are a "preventative measure be it administered in the arm or buttock. It's when the flu does hit people, you're more apt to see a IVAC or FILAC probe up their bottoms getting their temperatures taken. Though not as common as in the past, it is still done as needed, and with the flu, sometimes it is needed in the butt!
