I too had a near similar experience few months ago when I had an infected wound in the foot. After the failure of oral drugs, the whole limb was getting red and swollen . The doctor admitted me to the local hospital for IV antibiotics and pain medication. The pain injections were given in the butt once a day and antibiotics twice IV . On the third day they had difficulty finding veins for the cannula so the doctor suggested to give the shots in the butts. Boy they hurtled soo much that I was in tears begging the nurse to pull the big needle out. Both cheeks were swollen and very sore and one injection left me with a coin size bruise. I had to get more than 10 shots the worst was when the doctor told me that I better get a bicillin injection every month for three months to ensure that the cellulitis does not recur. This injection of thick white stuff with big deep needles is simply a hell! I am glad that I am over!

I was admitted to hospital for a complicated pneumonia after the failure of oral antibiotics. I am not tall and slightly underweight. The IV antibiotics were given for 2 days then, the blocked line!. The doctor suggested the intramuscular route. I had no idea how an intramuscular antibiotic can be so painful when given and sore after that. I am used to intramuscular injection as I have a B12 deficiency and I get a shot every month at my doctor's office, but this was different. With some nurses, it could tolerate the pain without crying with another old nurse, seeing her would bring the tears to my eyes. She would jab the needle firmly and push the antibiotics very quickly. My muscles would cramp and I would feel the intense pain reaching my thigh and even foot! The spot would remain tender for the following days. After 4 days I had sore, bruised spots all over my butt cheeks and I could feel the swallen injection sites. I was limping while walking from the aches. The last two injections were the worst, I suggested to the nurse to try the IV route first, so she diluted the stuff and when she failed, she asked me to lay on my side and changed the needle to a longer and thicker one. The burning was very intense and she insited to massage the site causing it to burn more. She left me with a big bruise. A week later when I was due to get my B12 the nurse at the office said OMG, who did this to you? I still remember the soreness and the pain and I hope I dont go through this again!
