Bob,
I am the Xair Hawk flying in Ireland, 15 hrs to date limited a bit by recent poor weather and the unfortunate need to work on sunny days.
Installed weight was 60kg, a bit over target but still less than the 68kg for the Jabiru it replaced. My CG is now mid range rather than towards the forward limit. Some weight could be saved as the radiator was a calculated guess and is a little too large, but I would rather that than struggle with overheating. If the rad was reduced the cowling could also be made a little smaller and more streamlined. I also fitted dual fuel pumps which adds a kg or so. Oil temps and cooling are fine, fuel burn at sensible cruise speeds around 13L/hr, and at WOT it is 23L/hr
The Jabiru with its claimed 80hp ran a 60x40 narrow chord prop, I am now running a Hercules 60x44 very wide chord and full throttle on the ground will drag it across the grass with the wheels locked, something the Jab would never manage.
A comfy cruise is 2500 rpm which gives around 84-85 kts and 13L/hr, flat out S&L is 2900ish rpm at 95kts and it takes very little nose down to head towards the 104kt Vne. WOT climb at 60kts is an indicated 1100ft/min, enough for me as I am more interested in short field performance with the strips and country round here. In general I would say for the same rpm as the Jab, speeds are up at least 6kts with lower fuel burn.
The plan is to do 25 hrs and get all the paperwork through the system for approval along with the UK hawk which only has the noise test remaining to do next week.

It is a pity that Sywell clashes with Blois every year because European companies will see that as a bigger market than the UK and exhibit there as a first choice. However, I would expect something from D-Motor at Popham or Sywell next year.

Nick
