Pro-RH groups open signature campaign
Tweet
AMID the possibility of a renewed discussion between government and Church leaders, a coalition of reproductive health (RH) bill advocacy groups has launched an online signature campaign in a bid to urge lawmakers to finally pass the controversial measure.
The Philippine NGO Council on Population, Health and Welfare, Inc. (PNGOC) said they want to show the solons that there is indeed a groundswell of support for the RH bill.
PNGOC executive director Dr. Eden Divinagracia said they want the bill passed because they believe it will be helpful to the majority of the people.
"We continue to support a Reproductive Health Care Act as we firmly believe in its good intention of helping its constituents in giving them the right information and services which they will need to make a healthy decision about their lives as we believe that good sexual and reproductive health is crucial to national development," she said.
Divinagracia said interested individuals may access the signature campaign at http://www.change.org/petitions/president-of-the-philippines-legislators-a-call-for-a-vote-for-the-rh-bill.
Earlier in the week, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle expressed his openness to the idea of resuming the Church and State dialogue over the RH bill.
This was welcomed by the principal author of the bill, Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, saying it would be good for the two camps to hold "enlightening sessions."
President Aquino III has already identified the bill as a priority measure of his administration. – Gerard Naval
