San Joaquin
By Carlo G. Soldevilla
Written on December 27, 2018

An outburst of emotion,
After a Father & Son ‘consultation’

It resulted to battery-
Physical harm which created misery

It’s not a displaced behavior
Their ‘victim’ was to whom their anger was directed –to the man, not the dog.{One who does not think well could kick the dog to release his fur(y).}--

The act was impolite, improper
Not according to good customs, norms or behavior

They could not perhaps schedule for a boxing
So they rushed…to go where their target was…but it’s the organization whom they were fighting

Abuse of power? I should say, yes.
Not knowing that they don’t marry their position. They’re just passers(by).

They both don’t know…the ‘father’ and I are distant cousins, related at 4th degree.
My father told me that the congressman’s dad is his 3rd degree cousin, so the congressman-the father and I are cousins-4th degree of consanguinity.

Still my message remains the same, you have tarnished the family’s name.
“It’s not time to make a change?” -- I don’t think this message applies. Remuneration—At this juncture, settle this. Forget about your ‘reign’.

Even thrones and kingdoms don’t last.
If you’d been hurt, you should have never resorted into entering into one of the oldest institutions of the world—Please do have a better grasp.

If I were Digong, within 72 hours after hurting the police,
I would have entered your house in full force, bodily picked up both of you and brought you to the plaz(a)…

…Tied the father with the flagpole’s rope, raised it up to the top
Same with the son, but he (the son) will only be raised half (mast).

It’s still fresh in my memor(y)
A couple of months ago, along EDSA near Camp Aguinaldo, my car’(s) (Plate Number MRI 222) clutch malfunctioned

The police officers at my back stopped their vehicle, pushed my car to the side…
…They were all wearing flying colors, the highest rank who pushed my car was a colonel..I was grateful—deep inside.

So I got mad upon hearing the news.
You hurt a police officer. Shame of you (our family’s name). Wake up please.

Let’s talk about San Joaquin where both of my grandparents (dad’s mom and dad) were buried (in the Catholic cemetery).
Ask me what have they done. For the good of everyone..,and modesty aside, the catholic church was full when my grandma died. ( I was assigned to read the scriptures before the homily).

The funeral march began…It was my first time to see a very large crowd attending the burial.
..Then I happily expressed to my dad what I saw ..but then he, then told me: “When your grandpa died, it’s double the number”… So emotional (that time).

For sure you know the hill of Kabitoonan in San Joaquin where I spent time with my relatives.

Any congressman, whether you like it or not, always has poor relatives.
So make up your mind, always think that you are poor. When we work with the government, we should never be thieves ( I hope we’re not).

Ask me about the Who’s Who in San Joaquin, I will tell you of two (2).
Brigadier General George Moleta (deceased & my father’s 2nd cousin). He was the battalion commander before in Cotabato. (I used to visit him in the Army Headquarters Support Group in Fort Bonifacio several years ago when he was still living. He died of Pneumonia.).

Do you know why it was peaceful that time in Cotabato when he (Gen. Moleta) was assigned there?
Riding on his jeep, when he noticed women and children walking, he let them have their free ride going home. He’s a typical generous Ilonggo. Not knowing that they are wives and children of MNLF commanders.

So the news (free ride) about kindness became known to their (wives’) husbands. It resulted to peace between government forces and MNLF forces while he was assigned in Cotabato.
That’s the 35th Infantry Battallion he was commanding. General Moleta is San Joaquin’s pride.

Another one is Attorney Ignacio Sapalo (Sapalo-Velez used to be the Top 10 Law Firm in the Philippines.
He (Attorney Sapalo) is Atenean. He is my G-d-father and he lives in Ayala-Alabang. He used to work with the government under the Bureau of Patents then he chose to do private practice.

I hope you become part of the roster.
May you live at peace with everyone. Just do it (whatever kindness and whenever you can).

I’m sorry if I scold you both this way.
If the Lopezes paid half a million for a slap (no offense for the Lopezes for this exaggeration), I hope you will double the money (from your personal savings) to pay the police officer…and, as soon as you can, leave the government service and live your live to the full. This is the best unsolicited advice I can offer you.

Note: I saw in the bus at the GMA News TV this morning about what happened in Iloilo. My father, Engr. Roberto Soldevilla grew up in San Joaquin, Iloilo ( ..until later migrating to Kidapawan) with Lola Iska (her mom’s sister) as his guardian in San Joaquin..and he used to tend the cows with the late, General Moleta during their childhood years . General Moleta was my grandma’s adopted son. General Moleta was planning to retire when he was still Major in the army but my grandma scolded him: “Rather than retiring..and play majong..you better continue with your government service until you become General’. Uncle George followed the advice of my lola that, during his San Joaquin homecoming, the first house he visited was my grandma’s ‘nipa hut’. (I asked my grandma why she did not intend to build a big house, with her having a medical doctor as her youngest son working in U.S., she told me, she was helping many people in San Joaquin—that’s the reason why)…Cuz, this message is more than enough for us. I’ll visit the Garin fam later. Thanks and may you ask sincere apology with remuneration from our good and gentlemen police officers.
