Since
By Carlo G. Soldevilla
Written on January 8, 2019

Since the day you were born until you reached 18
Your parents were there guiding you, Janine

If you ask me who between them I know better
Of course I would say, it’s your mother..

..because she’s my first cousin, and during our childhood years,
We used to play pick-up sticks (She taught me this) including how to touch the piano keys.

She ís musically inclined, Her mom (deceased) was a classical pianist,
Teaching music or piano lessons to her neighbors in Diatagon, Surigao where I spent times vacationing in summer. It was so nice (then).

There in Surigao Sur I saw small planes. The owners of these were on logging concession.
Cutting the big trees, placing them on trucks. Perhaps, selling them then to other nation(s).

Today’s topic must be about your birthday but it seems, here I am taking you back to histor(y)
Surigao, even its neighboring place, Agusan, daily had rains because of its rainfor(est)

During those times, there was no flood in Agusan because there were lots of trees (growing),
Protecting the soil, making the place verdant, where birds fly..including bees

Actually, I wrote this poem because your mom told me to do so
So rhyming, for me was quite hard to do that instantly, Happy birthday to you…

…and may all your wishes come true (These last words come from my beautiful officemate because she happened to read this).
