Mistaken Identity
By Carlo G. Soldevilla
Written on December 29, 2017

(Poem based on the fatal shooting of passengers in Mandaluyong City.).

Mistaken identity that led to the loss of lives
In the future, how can this be solved? No tinted glass for all vehicles?

..or for the police officers to be more careful in their tasks, to really know the identity of the rider(s)..
..before pulling the trigger. To be more careful, to know the rules of engagement..or to have refresher (course)?

Here’s the story which I just overheard (This could be hearsay if not verified):

A moslem guy shoot the lady who’s believed to be the live-in partner (I don’t know of whom),

After the shooting, there were about 6 persons tried to help the victim in the shooting by rushing to the hospital to bring the lady who was shot earlier.

One of those who tried to help happens to be the owner of the vehicle. (I just don’t know if he survived in the incident.).

A baranggay tanod happens to give the wrong info..telling the police officers that the one (or the person/s) who shot the lady was on board the vehicle that’s headed to the hospital.

The police officers shoot the tinted vehicle without verifying who’s inside the vehicle, leading to the death of the vehicle’s riding passengers.

Some (about two passengers) passengers survived that fatal (shooting); one believed to be playing dead who happens to be the owner of that ‘helping’ vehicle.

Who’s to be blamed? The one who pulled the trigger, or the one who gave the wrong identity?
This is a police matter. One thing is sure, there was no shootout. For the shooters, what would be the penalty?

Note: The story written or told by yours truly in poetry is based on the news shared by a security guard about what he heard about the incident. Thank you.
