The five finalists as announced on stage for the title of Miss Teen-USA 2011:

1) Miss Kansas Teen-USA
2) Miss California Teen-USA
3) Miss Missouri Teen-USA
4) Miss North Dakota Teen-USA
5) Miss Texas Teen-USA

-------------*******-----------------

Selected as Miss Teen-USA 2011.....

Miss Texas Teen-USA, Danielle Doty, 18, of Harlingen, Texas, who becomes the second Texas contestant to win the Miss Teen-USA title in 28 year-history of the national pageant. The first Texan was Christie Lee Woods of Huntsville, Texas in 1996. She would later compete for Miss Texas-USA twice, but did not win. (Question--does Miss Texas Teen-USA first runner-up BreAnna Young of Fort Worth now assumes the state title if the state pageant franchise directors ask her, or is the title left vacant??).

First runner-up. Miss North Dakota Teen-USA, Audra Mari, 17, of Fargo (who, in my opinion looks a bit like pop singer Katy Perry). Audra was the only contestant in the top five which has not had a Miss Teen-USA winner before. She becomes the highest ranked North Dakota entrant in the Miss Teen-USA pageant. The next highest ever ranked entrant from the state Kate Cooper of Westhope, North Dakota in 2006 who was second runner-up.

Second runner-up, Miss California Teen-USA, Alexis Swanstrom, 18, of San Diego, who could have made history had she won by having both Miss Teen-USA and Miss USA winners from the same state in the same year. Last month in Las Vegas, then-Miss California-USA 2011, Alyssa Campanella (a New Jersey native) was named Miss USA 2011...and a win tonight by Alexis thus making it a double national pageant win in 2011 for California.

Third runner-up, Miss Kansas Teen-USA, Taylor Clark, 17, of Topeka

Fourth runner-up, Miss Missouri Teen-USA, Sydnee Stottlemyre, 17, of Wildwood

Former Miss Teen-USA 2005, Alexandra "Allie" Leigh LaForce (whose mother, Lesa Rummell LaForce, was Miss Ohio-USA 1977) and Las Vegas radio announcer Chester (Chet) Buchanan did a good job as co-hosts.

The competition banners for the Miss Teen-USA contestants, just like those at Miss USA last month, look cheap and have a slight different look and font size from the previous ones used for decades at Miss Teen-USA, Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants. They should bring back the previous longtime used version which looks better. Anyone know the reason for the switch in competition banners this year?

Overall, it was a very nice 2011 Miss Teen-USA pageant, but next year lets bring the Miss Teen-USA pageant back to our own country--the USA. Can you imagine the Miss Canada pageant being held in Wyoming or the Miss Cayman Islands pageant in Texas just because there maybe some nice business sponsorship deal?? This is the fourth-consecutive year that this hotel in the Bahamas as played host to the Miss Teen-USA pageant.

It is so tacky to out-source our own American pageant to foreign countries, even if they are some 184 miles away from our American ocean-shoreline of Florida. Surely there are dozens of cities throughout the USA that would love to host the Miss Teen-USA pageant and get the extra tourism revenue for a week or so in their community--even if the pageant is no longer televised nationally (just via webcast). Thoughts? Again, congratulations to Danielle, the newly named Miss Teen-USA 2011.

CLARIFY---the sentence regarding the first runner-up should have said.....Audra was the only contestant in the top five who hails from a state which has not had a Miss Teen-USA winner. And now--they still don't. Try again in 2012. Also it should have said Katie not Kate...as in Katie Cooper (Miss ND Teen-USA 2006),15:56:30 07/17/11 Sun
Did TX win because she's 18 and done with high school? It seems Miss Teen USA winners lately have been high school grads so they would use the year in NY. The other finalists were all 17 apart from CA who was 18.W12:35:12 07/21/11 Thu
