They want a vehicle that can be turned over to another County Dept when we get a new vehicle in 5 years. There is no other County Dept that can use a SUV. But a pick up truck could be turned over to the Public Works Dept. Their are trying to save some money. There was a pick up truck being used before the Jeep (the 1st SUV used by the dept) was put into service almost 5 years ago and it is still being used today. Council approved a Extended Cab Pick Up. My main concern with a pick up truck (standard or extended cab) is that there is no place to put someone if they are arrested. There is no way that the person is going to be setting in the front seat beside me and it could take a long time for someone else to get to the location in a P.C. with a cage. If they can get into the area at all. We patrol very nice paved highways, gravel roads to truck trails which you may not be able to drive on without a 4x4.
