In reply to: Greg 's message, "You don't need to join a club to be a member of the hobby" on 10:05:08 12/06/02 Fri

I have owned various retired police vehicles for years. It was not until the internet, and specifically this web site, that I realized how many people there were with similar interests. I went to a few shows, events, etc, like DC and found some really nice people, A few grudges are here and there, but I choose to be neutral. Any organization of humans is going to have some disagreements. (Volunteer FD, Moose club - you get the picture) I get enough stress on the job, so I am not too vocal at events. I did join the HPCHG because this enabled me to be in the loop for some pretty neat stuff, see some really nice cars and mostly get away from work. I can say that I was in this hobby for a long time before joining ANY antique car club. I don't really think NOT being in a club would hurt, but I can say the contacts I have made with 'club-mates' has been beneficial. I get e-mail/calls from people who know my cars and let me know about parts or equipment that I might be interested. This hobby is a stress reliever for me, I know the officers of clubs eventually get burned out, so I try to be a good member an assist & support them. Best thing to do is live and let live and not take sides. This is a hobby, not a religion.
