I,ve been in the hobby for 11 years now, and I know my Ford, I mean I drove it for 8 out of those 11 years! and this summer will be 9, I dont have any PREFERENCES, as I like the Dodges as well BUT was told from a retired RCMP officer that the Ford was faster.
To come on here and tell you the specs on the car then to be slapped in the face by some NEWB! who doesn't even own a PI let alone drive one, tells me what i have in the car!
Let alone tell me he owns several of them, YET we never heard of this guy before! nor have I EVER Seen his car... (At least Billy made the attemt to send me pics of his PI"S)
Then I tell U I met someone in Wisconsin, who ACTUALLY owns these vehicles RIGHT NOW, and he tells me the are all the same in performance!
Then I tell U the specs on my car, and compared to the 72 they are basically the same, and I tell u about the performance 1/4 mile time etc.. and you still have the nerve to tell me, NOPE your stats are wrong!
I think u all need some wakin up here, and to realise that 100 horse difference will not make your Dodges and whatever to 13's on the quartermile! LOL
Lets say my 78 is only 200 horse to the wheels... and well say the 429 pi has 370 to the flywheel... any Dragster knows ESPECIALLY with 3-1 gears you will lose EASILY 130+ horse to the wheels! thru driveline axle etc..
BUT your still lookin at 240 to the wheels, BUT DONT BE EXPECTIN NO DAMN 13.9's at the 1/4!... you be lookin at BEST high 14's 14.9+!
My ford Dont have any Restrictions (cat's etc).. and I told you it ran a 15.4, yet you guys seem to think that, that is light speed!
Yet I ran a 15.6 (best ever) in my 78 Police 350 Phoenix!..
SHIT, the F-in Honda Civics here are runnin low 16's!
I honestly dont know what your problems are, NOR DO I CARE!
I came on here to speak openly about the specs and whatever else, NOT to be taken to school on something MANY of you dont understand!
As for the horse differance.. Ill even give the 429 100 horse diff, and that would only make a 1/2 sec at best on the quarter mile...
I know cause I use to install Nitrous for the boys in town here at a shop.. and even with 150 SHOT, they were only gettin a 1/2 sec improvement!
If I'm runnin 15's and this guy tells me he's runnin 13.9's then he's obviously pushin 700+ horse to the wheels! (nevermind the flywheel) and torque to rocket that thing to the 1/4 as a VIPER which weighs half that and 200 horse less runs the same time!
To the other FORD guys on here who actually own 70's PI's... all the stats I gave on here are 100% acurate!
As for performance and races etc.. all TRUE! NO DREAMIN HERE!
I just took a 2002 Ford Interceptor out for a spin today, (local dealer) and boy was I disapointed.. I read from these guys how good the performance is, YET i waited for the kick in the pants performance... YET it never came... Sure made alot of noise but didn't go anywhere FAST!
To Chris H, the wannabee... your new to the Hobby.. and I welcome U, I dont know where you got your 70's Fords from, BUT your 429 is the fastest on the planet, you must have gotton it from the same guy who sold JACK his beanstalk beans!
I,ve NEVER seen any pics of it anywhere, and I,ve been monitorin the net for 11 years now as to pics, YET STILL NEVER SEEN IT!
I met 1 guy in Wisconsin who actually owns a 71PI -72PI - 74PI and a 78PI and also a Merc PI! and he says there is no diff in performance to the diff FORD models with the big blocks!
My Ford hauls ass, I love it, and that is the main reason why I kept it over these years!
I love the suspension, and great handlin of it also! I especially love crusin on sunday nights at 35 MPHS's and stompin the gas pedal, and hearing the sound of music (4 barrels kickin down and BOTH rear tires breakin loose)
When I go to car meets, I'm known as the guy who runs that INTERCEPTOR!
For a car with such poor performance, IM SURE WELL KNOWN in the community! even after its been parked for the last 4 years!
