Well Monaco Marshal Man or whatever your Mopar/Daimler brainwashed cells call you today, you cannot blame
the Ford Crown Vic for all the fire/collision problems. The NHTSA also determined that the Chevy and the Dodge
can suffer from the same problem. Ford is the ONLY one to recall all the in service police cars and begin
retrofitting rubber guards so that in the event of a collision the real axle will not damage the fuel tank. The main
problem is the sloppy installation of equipment in the cars, I can’t tell you how many cars I have seen where the
low bidder equipment installers drilled holes directly into the Ford fuel tanks to mount fire extinguishers of all
things. I have also seen the Caprice fuel tanks with holes in them from sloppy installations of equipment brackets
onto the trunk floor directly over the fuel tanks. I have also seen all types of cars with cages installed where the
screws stuck down so far they acted as lathes on the driveshaft and caused failures of the driveshaft. Was this a
Daimler/GM/Ford problem? No it again was sloppy installation work. Ford sells the majority of police cars used
today, why? because they are the only remaining manufacturer to offer what the police depts. want, a rear wheel
drive car. Both GM and Daimler gave up on the market So get your facts straight before you go calling a Ford a
POS, as far as I am concerned it is one of the best and safest cars made today. Why don’t you do a little research of
your own and bring to light the fact that Daimler has suspended production of the Dodge police cars (for
“retooling” work) because the frames are bending in police service? Oh yes that sounds like a real safe car that I
want to be driving, heck in most areas of the country Daimler does not even have Fleet representatives to call on
potential customers, I’d be interested in what they have to say but they have never called on our purchasing dept.
even though I invited them. Does not sound like a very good alternative to me, the Ford may not be perfect but
NOBODY else has anything out there that will even come close to the price and rear wheel drive capabilities of
the Ford. We invite them, but they do not even bid on the contracts, sounds like they don’t want the police car business to me.
