I think you mean the spotlight handle is not straight up and down when the spotlight is straight up and down? If that is what you mean, the spotlight limit notch needs adjusted. It is sorta hard to explain with out seeing it in person tho... But I will try. If you take the handle off, you will notice a notch cut into the end of the outer tube. Usually this is anywhere from 1/2 to 2/3 the way around the circumfrence of the tube. If this is not "indexed" the right way on the car, it will only let the up and down movement of the spotlight go so far. (properly set, this keeps the spotlight from slamming into your door, and the windshield... It is sort of a "limit" for the up and down movement. If you look inside the handle, you will see a square piece of metal sticking out from the side of the handle, inside right near the top. This is what keeps it from going too far. What you may need to do is to loosen the outer tube, and rotate the outer tube until it is at the right "index" position, and then retighten it. The easiest way is to put the handle on loosely, making sure it is seated, then rotate the spotlight up to vertical, then holding the spotlight head, rotate the head down until the handle is in the right position. Then tighten the outside tube, and the handle and make sure you can raise and lower the spotlight as far as you want. If not, repeat the process, and sorta feel out where the tube needs to be tightened down, so that you have the right amount of movement. My car goes from about 45 degrees up to just above the windshield when it is down.

Also, here is which screw adjusts which area of the spotlight:

On the spotlight bracket itself... A Alrge Flathead Screw... It holds the outside tube in place and that is all. The outside tube should not rotate. This is the one you want to loosen to adjust the handle to spotlight alignment. Also there is a brass split collar around the shaft. make sure the split is lined up with the split in the mounting bracket so it will tighten up snug. DO NOT overtighten this... All it does is hold the spotlight... It does not "tighten" the movement of the spotlight!

On the spotlight head.... near the end of the shaft on the spotlight head. There is a Large flathead screw recessed into the handle right by the beginning of the shaft. (It is the largest of the screws on the shaft near the spotlight head) This controls the amount of "friction" on the up and down movement. To keep the spotlight from falling down when you have it pointing at something. Hope this helps! Tom W.
