I feel that I am the only one who is 100% against this concept. Buses and cabs are businesses. Even though buses are municipal in nature, people expect that the government agency that operates them will do what they can to keep fares low. They even put ads on top of buses to hit people in high rises. The police do not charge for their services. Accepting a free squad only sends a message to the public that the police can be bought. If an officer has to drive what looks like a NASCAR racecar with lights then my gut tells me that he is not going to be taken as seriously. That will affect the attitude of offenders and put the officer at a higher risk. In big cities ads are everywhere. We even have mobile billboards...big trucks that drive around and around on crowded streets, wasting gas and making life just that more cluttered. Leave squads alone. Marketing and police cars do not mix. It turns "WE SERVE AND PROTECT" into "WE SERVE AND COLLECT".
