Before becoming a state the MHP was originally the Montana Territory Rangers. I guess they were the "bring 'em back dead or alive" type of law enforcement agency. On their patch to this day are the numerals 3-7-77. These numbers are NOT a date in history; the numbers signify the dimensions of a grave. (3 feet x 7 feet x 77 inches)
I think it nice they keep the old traditions displayed, even if cryptic.
