Chris,

I hope you don't take this wrong but I do these calculations on a regular basis. This is strictly a raw 75% efficiency model as is standard practice by engineers in approximating the HP ratings in average conditions. Let's have a look at your figures in the way actual dyno guys look at it. If your Ford LTD PI weighs about 4787.5 pounds (4406 pound curb weight, 181.5 pounds of gas [24.2 gallons at 7.5 pounds per gallon] and 200 pound driver) and can complete a 1/4 mile in about 15.4 seconds. That means that you've got about 259 HP at the wheels, and about 336 HP at the flywheel with a typical 18% efficiency loss through the automatic transmission and driveline drag. Now, the original 1978 Interceptor with the 3.00:1 gearing was a dog unfortunately at the 1/4 mile as it was set up for the highway. So in effect, you have either something already modified on this car and if it would do say a 14.5, that's even more impressive at that meaning you've got about 310 HP at the wheels, and about 403 HP at the flywheel.
Not even the canted valved 429 could muster anything above 371 hp at the flywheel. I don't know what this means for your car but I want to find out more factually as to the actual speeds this car was capable! I hope that you see the fun in trying this out as an experiment and let's try it out when you are done. Ok?
