Subject: Why wouldn't you left foot brake?

I don't understand why left foot braking isn't the norm. I remember someone once explained to me that the right foot only technique is taught because in a panic stop situation some people would hit the brake and the gas together. I'm sorry, but if the reation time with my foot hovering over the brake pedal is the difference between a 6 year old turning 7 or becoming a soupy wheel chock for my Suburban, I'll take the left foot braking method.
