In reply to: Giant 's message, "Frank, you obviously haven't driven any of those German sedans you mention. Otherwise, you would know from personal experience that Audi makes the best handling sedans in the world, second only the nimble Mopar M-body (;" on 09:36:08 07/30/02 Tue

Would that I could afford any one of those German sedans. If I could, most likely I'd buy an Audi Quattro, probably the A-8, with the V-8 engine, of course. To use a phrase I heard somewhere, I think it has the most technically advanced drivetrain of any sport sedan. And it's a great-looking car, too.

There's a bit of irony here. I have a number of unpublished manuscripts of stories about a fictional Vermont State Police detective who happens to be a retired NY Football Giants linebacker and former NYPD detective. He invested his football earnings well and drives his own car -- an Audi A-8 -- instead of a state police unmarked car.

But, liking Audis or not, EVERY road test or comparison test I've ever read ranks the BMW, and usually Mercedes, ahead of the Audi in handling. RWD really does make for better handling. You'll notice there aren't any FWD CART, Formula 1, Grand National, or Indy Cars. (And all of those sanctioning bodies have outlawed AWD.)
