With the right coach and lots of work, talent can improve. BUT you can't fix unattractiveness! Some of these girls excel in talent but don't have the looks. Ky had focused so much on a girl with tons of talent that they go to nationals only to lose to a beauty that excels in the other areas. Talent can be learned.
