Steve Harvey isn’t the only beauty pageant host to have a “Steve Harvey” (now synonymous with pageant blunders where the wrong person is named the champ) moment. In fact, he wasn’t even the first.

Back in the year 2000, Miss Vieques, Bárbara Serrano, and Miss Toa Alta, Sarybel Velilla, were finalists for the coveted Miss World Puerto Rico title.
The co-hosts announced Miss Vieques as the first runner-up, making Velilla the victor. But she's wasn't the one crowned. For some reason, Serrano received the tiara – that is until the male host shouted repeatedly that, "Es Toa Alta! TOA ALTA! TOA ALTAAAAAA!," prompting Miss Vieques to remove her own crown and place it on the confused (real) winner of the evening, Miss Toa Alta.
Miss Vieques’ own graciousness paid off, as she came out on top as Miss World Puerto Rico the following year.
But the moral of this story isn’t that good things come to those who wait (or those who return their coronets to their rightful owners). Rather, it’s that mistakes happen, and those racist Latino social media users who blamed the “Family Feud” host’s “Steve Harvey” moment on his race should see that it was a light-skinned Latino who effed up first.

Bárbara coronó ella misma a Miss Toa Alta, quien fue la que ganó la competencia.
Ahora Wilnelia felicitó a la verdadera ganadora de MMPR 2000.
