Thought I'd start a new thread...

Isn't Abigail MacBride still the legal heir to all things Laura? That is the last I heard anyway - and the battle over the copyright issues has passed to her now.

I would love for Melissa Gilbert to rehash her role as Laura someday. THat would be neat. But someone would have to write a script for her first.. Ann???

I wish I 1) knew how to write a script, 2) knew someone of influence so I could sell one if I could write one, lol!

I'd just love to see the story of Laura continued, especially settling on Rocky Ridge Farm, making a go of it, the relationship with Rose both as a child and as an adult (who could play Rose???), and of course Laura writing her LHOP books, how much a part Rose played in helping and/or editing, getting the first one published, the subsequent wild success of the books. It would probably have to be a 4 or 5 part miniseries at the least!

[> Not sure if I'd want MG playing Laura -- delilah, 00:18:29 08/07/04 Sat

Let me first say I love LHotP. I tape it twice a day even though I know every scene. With that said, here is my opinion on MG playing Laura....

I can't see anyone offering the role to her. It may make the movie too close to the tv series. I, personally, would want a movie based on the actual truth of LIW. I find HER story very fascinating, as well as all the thousands of fans. People associate MG with the tv show, which as we all know took the show waaaayyyy beyond the books.

On the other hand I would not want a BLONDE playing Laura. Maybe that girl who starred in Tick Everlasting. I don't know her name, but she is a real cutie. She may be too "important" to play a tv role...la..di..da....

Maybe if someone throws out some more names we could all offer our two cents. Maybe MG would't be so bad IF I heard your opinions on the subject. Could they pull off a movie based on actual events, while at the same time having an actress so deeply associated with a fictional show? Do you see my point?

Then again, do I really care about everyone else's view on LIW's life?

I can see what you mean about MG being identified with the TV version of Laura. Still, with her being older, and with different hairstyle, etc., maybe she could distance herself enough from the LHOP role.

Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order, SVU) might work. I'm trying to remember how old Laura was by the time she and Almanzo moved to RR. Mariska is only 40, and looks youthful, but it does depend on how young Laura was when they first settled there. So age could be a factor with MG too.

So...does anyone else have ideas about who they'd like to see play Laura from the age where she settle at Rocky Ridge through to her getting her books published (or maybe through her entire life)?

I think Cynthia Rylant is a better writer than any other writer for Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Melissa Gilbert looks so much like the real Laura. The other Laura was good but she didnt even have the same hair color. But who else has the brown long hair and eyes?

[> [> Casting Rose? -- Ann, 11:53:20 08/30/04 Mon

What about casting Rose? There'd probably be a need for 3 actresses--one as a young girl, one as a young teen, and one as a grown-up Rose (who could then age through the magic of makeup). Any ideas? I can see Diane Weist as an older Rose, but she couldn't play Rose in her 20's!

I can totally see Diane Weist as an older Rose! What about someone like Sarah Chalke (scrubs/roseanne) as a 20's Rose?

Was Sarah the temporary Becky on Roseanne? If so, I can picture her as the younger Rose. :)
