I had a hysterectomy when I was 30, and Thank God that I had what I wanted.. a girl and a boy.. so there was no reason for me to fret about not being fertile anymore, and I looked forward to not having the monthly nuisance come my way. I wonder tho, if back in those Days when the Ingalls were living, if becoming infertile, or having always been barren was something that truly bothered the women, since it was something that they were able to contribute to life. I mean, back then, it was truly a mans world, and the men felt worthy in their hard work, and all of the rights that they had.. but women, I think, were passive, doing their womenly duties, and standing behind her family. Maybe having children made them feel more worthy? Just a thought.

Oh, I don't doubt the abililty to have children was extremely important. It's just that on the show, Ma already has 4 children, and she's portrayed as being the backbone of the family. Now doing a show about a woman back then who couldn't have *any* children and who was frantic about it I think would have been more realistic. I mean, even today, people with fertility problems get understandably upset.
If the show had kept going and they'd had the Boasts trying to buy Rose because they couldn't have chilren, I think it would have been more in the realm of the real-life LHOP.
