Subject: Pioneer Quest

I just saw a show on PBS called Pioneer Quest. I think it was the first episode of the series, but I missed the beginning, so there might have been an earlier one.
It's like Frontier House, only it's only two couples, and I think maybe it's filmed in Canada. Tonight the two couples went by wagon and foot to where they are going to build a homestead. I'm not sure if the plan is to build one house for both couples, or, two, one for each couple.
It got off to a rocky start, as the older couple had to leave after one day, because it turned out that the morning of that day the older guy was arrested for some sort of sex abuse or something and he had to back to prepare for a trial in a few months!
The episode ended with previews of a new couple coming in, and the young couple predicting the new couple couple (a bit older, middle-aged, I think) would not last more than a month. They are supposed to stay there for an entire year!
I'm wondering if this is a repeat of a series or a new one. Has anyone ever seen it before, or is it new?
It looks as if it should be interesting, and just confirms my feeling that I would *never* volunteer for such a show! I am too much of a wimp. I want my hot and cold running water, etc.!!!

What channel aired this? I haven't heard about this one. It sounds very "soapy". :)

I haven't heard of this one either. Did you check the PBS website to see if it has any information? I'll head over there and see if I find anything.

It's on PBS. After I posted, it occurred to me to do a search on Google. From what I found, I think it was on a couple of years ago, and this is a repeat. Here in Oregon the show is on Saturdays, at 7 p.m, with a repeat on Thursdays at 10 p.m., but at www.pbs.org they have this thing where you can key in your zip code and it gives the schedule in your area.
From what I can tell there are at least 4 more episodes (though with them there for a whole year, I'd think it would be more than that, but who knows.)
I definitely plan to keep watching! I think the new couple will work hard. The young guy who's already there was skeptical because the woman brought doilies for her home. But even in the real pioneer days women brought at least something that was mainly decorative, probably to boost their spirits.
Speaking of decorative items, was the china lady in the LHOP stories ever documented as real, or was it just something for the books?

I searched the PBS website and couldn't find that show. I keyed in my area code but didn't get anything from it. Guess I'll go home and pour through the tv guide

On the China Shepardess - there has been a lot of speculation on this piece. There has never been "proof" of its existence. There IS a china figurine in Carrie's collection in the Black Hills. Now some feel that one is the one from Laura's books. However, I for one don't agree with that. Zoie was there a couple years ago and video taped everything in Carrie's collection, including the lady. I watched the video a few times and to me it does not fit the description at all from the books. So to me it was most likely a literary tool that Laura used in the books. Of course, no one will really ever know.... BTW - am I spelling shepardess correctly?? It looks wrong! LOL!

I have a feeling the China Shepardess (that spelling looks good to me too, Jennifer!) was just, as you say, just a literary tool for the books. Otherwise, when the books were published, Laura, or Carrie, or whoever had it, would have somehow publicized that fact, and it would have been featured in a magazine article or something when Laura was still living.
As for Pioneer Quest, I wonder if maybe it's just being shown as a re-run by individual stations, and the one here just happens to be one of them. I did find that it was filmed in Canada. If I find out any more info about it I'll post it. It looks as if it'll be a good show.
