Subject: Masons

I know a while ago we were talking about how Charles Ingalls was a Mason and no one was too sure what it was, if it was a religon or what. Yesterday in my local paper ther was an article on The Shriners club and and it mentioned that they are an adranced degree of Masons.
"Masons are a fraternal orginization that is non-denominational, non-sectarian,men who come from all faiths, all colors and creeds(although it may hve had a different addmittance policy the.) Masons began centuries ago among men who wanted to extend there pewrsonal groth and charity. In 1872 a group of Masons formed the Shriners to extend those values."
So, it seems that Charles Ingalls did some charity work.(if it's the same Masons as mentioned. It would make sense that his religion could be something else.

Thanks for the information, Shell. I'm not familiar with the Masons, but I've heard of the Shriners. They have hospitals for children, I think, as a main part of their charity work. Also, they were those fezes (or whatever the plural of fez is) and sometimes drive around in tiny little cars as an entertainment thing.

My great uncle was a Mason and his wife my Great Aunt was an Eastern Star (as were both Laura and Ma and most likely Mary). Jobs Daughters (if you have heard of that) is Eastern Star for young girls. They are all fraternal orders and while they are non-denominational, religion is still involved but to what degree I am not sure. I know so little about it, but I do know it is very hard to become a member (or at least 20 years ago it was) and you could not become a member of Jobs Daughters or Eastern Star without having a Mason in your family. I know a while ago I found a website on Eastern Star and it was very interesting - it showed the house that the *head* lives in (if memory serves me correct it is in New York)
