Subject: Frontier H*ll!

Well, I'm usually in bed sound asleep well before this time, but I couldn't stop watching Frontier House and I had to comment on it! First of all, let me say I would not have lasted 5 hours, let alone 5 months, if for some strange reason all sense had left my head and I'd voluntered for that project, so in a way I'd admire them all for sticking it out.
At first I was struck by how the Clunes (from California) were such whiners, but then the Glenns really started to irritate me, especially Karen, because they were so holier-than-thou. Nevermind that they had the ready made cabin and coral. They act so superior and have no sympathy for the Clunes. Yes, the Clunes are whiny and appear to not have had a clue. But Karen keeps saying how it doesn't feel like a community because the Clunes won't ask for help. But then the Glenns seem to go out of their way to not help them when they have the chance.
They go and get the second cow without telling the Clunes *in advance* so they'd have an opportunity to build a coral. Then when the Clunes cow escapes Mr. Glenn is so snotty, telling those poor freezing girls to go milk the cow on their own property.
The teenage Clune girls are whiny, but by gosh they're doing tons of work, and what teenage girl from today wouldn't freak out over all they had to leave behind to go do this frontier thing that *their parents* want to do.
Interesting to see in the previews that the holier-than-thou Glenns are talking about how *they* are on the verge of divorce!
And the poor bride of the other guy (can't remember his name). What a way to start a marriage!
Well, all I can say is--I'm hooked!!!

Well I only was able to watch the first 30 minutes or so. I'll tell you what killed me was all the makeup talk! The young girl is running around putting it on (and she didn't look anywhere NEAR old enough to be wearing it) and the mother is whining because she can't wear it for their *portrait* My gosh people - YOU asked to be on the show! If they are this vain before hitting the prairie what are they going to be like all that time ON the prairie???!!! LOL!!!

The Clune girls smuggled makeup to the settlement with them! But they ended up burying it so they wouldn't be tempted to use it any more. It doesn't surprise me that the girls were upset about no makeup (though I agree that the younger one seems too young to be worrying about anything but lipstick at the most). But you'd think the mother would have been more realistic.
However, it is the Clune family that seems to have gone into the adventure the most starry-eyed and clueless. But the father did have a point when he groused about how they couldn't hunt (because today it is against the law to hunt out of season). Back then they would have hunted to put meat on the table, regardless of the time of year, I'm sure.
We're not seeing all that happened, but I don't understand why Karen Glenn is so viciously upset by the Clune's behavior. Yes, the Clunes are whiny and clueless. But they live a half mile away, so why it bothers Karen so much, I don't get, except that "complaining" about the Clunes is her way of saying how superior *she* is. As I said, the Glenns got the ready-made cabin and corral, which was a *huge* advantage, so her air of superiority is kind of obnoxious.
