Subject: More FH followup/and start posting people, lol!

At the pbs.org/wnet/frontierhouse site you can read some more followup of the members of the families. Here's one from the 15-year-old Clune girl (the cousin).
"

"I think the 1880s were pretty cool," says Tracy Clune, Aine's 15-year-old cousin from Temecula, California, "but I feel sorry for the people who had to live like this all the time." After nearly five months on the frontier, she was looking forward to seeing the members of her immediate family and sleeping in her own bed. She has really enjoyed living on the frontier, and the only thing that has made her really uncomfortable was the tensions between the families in the valley. She will miss the stars, the fresh air, and Blanca, her milk cow. "I really hated her at first," she says, "and I won't miss milking her twice a day; but after five months, she's really grown on me." "I think I've grown up out here," she says. "I feel more responsible and more confident. I could take care of myself if I was left alone. Before I was afraid to go out at night, and [now] it doesn't bother me at all. I have no regrets about being out here. I don't think I'll be the same person when I return. I'll be less materialistic, less into make-up and clothing, and I really want to get to know the members of my own family better. I'm not the same person, and I'm happy about that."
The others are pretty interesting, some in what they said, some in what they *didn't* say. Nate Brooks background shows why he was fairly well prepared for frontier life compared to the others.

Unfortunately, we don't get FH in the UK. We've got Edwardian Country House instead (after having 1900 house, and 1940s House). But........... According to the Radio Times (TV listings magazine), Channel 4 might be going to show Frontier House. Good news for all us pioneer fans in the UK.

The 1940's House? What was that like? Was it just one family? Did anyone go off to "work" each day? Was someone off at "war?" I'd love to hear about it.

It was one family. They were blasted with air raid sirens at night and had to sleep in the shelter for many nights, going back to the house in the morning to find things like broken windows, thick dust, things knocked over etc. They had to live on ration books and observe blackout etc. Of course it wasn't quite the same as they knew they wouldn't get killed, but they were all fed up with the sleep deprivation, endless shopping to get whatever food was available etc. They had jobs similar to those they would have had during the war. It was very interesting.

Wish I'd seen it. It sounds as if it must have been pretty interesting.
